There was now a state of emergency in the country of Guatemala due to the activities of the drug cartels.
Torben Redder, Elmer and I wanted to go to the discovered temple city of El Camalote to inspect an older palace that was not known to anyone.
Apparently the area was owned by the El Gulfo drug cartel, so we had to be careful.
We got permission to enter the area and found the hidden ruins with 1200 year old palace rooms intact.
In the absence of permission, and due to the state of emergency, we could not rent a plane to find unregistered Mayan cities.
